Description
EVAX is a safe, naturally occurring, non-synthetic laxative derived from the Cape Aloe, Aloe ferox, which has been recommended by traditional healers for centuries. Records exist of trade in Aloe ferox extracts as long ago as the 17th century, when European spice traders regularly visited the Southern Cape en route to the Spice Islands in the Far East. Sailors valued the laxative effects of Aloe ferox during their long sea voyages where they were fed on bland constipating rations.
EVAX is made from free growing, non-cultivated Aloe ferox plants and is therefore free of any pesticides and has not been exposed to artificial fertilisers or chemicals of any sort. The dried Aloe ferox leaf used in EVAX is certified organic. EVAX contains no phenolphthalein or any other synthetically manufactured laxatives and is 100% pure.
1 – 2 capsules taken at night usually results in a normal bowel movement by morning. In severe cases, e.g. after surgery when taking strong opiate painkillers, 3 – 4 capsules may be required. Children over 6 years can take 1 capsule at night.
If you find that you are needing to use EVAX more than 3 – 4 times a week, you may not be getting sufficient healthy fibre in your diet. We recommend that you increase your fibre intake by concurrently taking SMART FIBRE on an ongoing basis for long term control of constipation and irregular bowel movement. Unlike synthetic laxatives, EVAX contains only safe, natural ingredients, but should not be used for more than 7-10 days without a break. EVAX does not contain the carcinogenic laxative, phenolphthalein. Phenolphthalein is a synthetic laxative which can cause both cancer and skin damage. The Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA) and the South African Department of Health have recommended that no laxatives containing phenolphthalein should be sold in South Africa.* The USA’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) banned products containing phenolphthalein in 1997.

The British Medical Journal published the results of a study done by the University of Erlangen in Nuremberg, Germany, in 2000 that showed that the use of the natural laxatives from Aloe ferox do NOT cause cancer.
EVAX is NOT suitable for:
Pregnant women. It may cause uterine cramping.
Children under the age of 6 years.
People with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD.)
Questions and Answers
What is constipation?
If you experience less than 3 bowel movements a week you may have constipation. Everybody suffers from this condition at some time, sometimes chronically. It is often caused by a lack of fibre or roughage in the diet, or overuse of painkillers containing codeine or other opiates such as morphine. The colon is usually under active and the stools dry, hard, compacted and difficult to move.
How does EVAX work?
EVAX relieves constipation in a number of ways. Once swallowed, the inactive aloin, an anthraquinone, travels the length of the gut and eventually ends up in the colon. In the colon the aloin is converted by certain natural bacteria into the active substance, aloe emodin anthrone, an aglycone. The aloe emodin anthrone is absorbed by the colon wall, causing salts and water to enter the colon. This rehydrates and softens the stools and increases the production of lubricating mucous. It also stimulates peristalsis (rhythmic contractions of the colon) resulting in a natural bowel movement. In addition the patented extraction method used to process the Aloe ferox leaves also provides dietary fibre, helping to prevent constipation.
Is EVAX safe?
Yes, unlike synthetic laxatives, EVAX contains only safe, natural ingredients, but should not be used for more than 7 to 10 days without a break. If you find that you are needing to use EVAX more than 3 or 4 times per week, we recommend that you concurrently take SMART FIBRE tablets on a regular and on-going basis, as you may not be getting sufficient healthy fibre in your diet.
Should I be taking something with EVAX for the health of my colon?
SMART FIBRE is high in dietary fibre and is the ideal product to take together with EVAX to prevent constipation. SMART FIBRE can be safely taken on an ongoing basis to improve bowel function and general well-being.
Does EVAX contain the carcinogenic (cancer causing) laxative Phenolphthalein?
No. EVAX does not contain phenolphthalein, which is a synthetic laxative that can cause both cancer and skin damage. The Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA) and the South African Department of Health have recommended that no phenolphthalein-containing laxatives be sold in South Africa. (PSSA newsletter #19/2002 and Government Gazette #23343/2002). The USA’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) banned products containing phenolphthalein in 1997. The British Medical Journal published the results of a study done by the University of Erlangen in Nuremberg, Germany in 2000, which showed that the use of the natural laxatives from Aloe ferox does not cause cancer.
How long does EVAX take to work?
Because the ingredients in EVAX must travel right through the alimentary tract before they are activated, EVAX takes 7 to 9 hours to work. Most people find it convenient to take EVAX at night before bedtime. This usually results in a normal bowel movement the following morning.
How many capsules should I take?
The normal effective dosage of EVAX is 2 capsules at night, although some people find that 1 capsule is sufficient. If the constipation is severe, such as in patients recuperating from surgery who are taking strong opiate painkillers, 3 or 4 capsules may be required.
Children over the age of 6 years should take 1 capsule at night.
Are there any people who should not take EVAX?
Children under the age of 6 years should not take EVAX.
Pregnant women should not take EVAX.
People with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) should not take EVAX.
If I can’t take EVAX, what can I take?
Alox Health’s SMART FIBRE is ideal for pregnant women and may be helpful for those with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).
Does EVAX have any side effects?
EVAX can occasionally cause stomach cramps. To avoid this either reduce the dosage or take the EVAX together with 3 – 6 SMART FIBRE tablets.
What can happen in the case of an overdose?
Taking more than the recommended dosage of EVAX may result in diarrhoea and abdominal cramping. Long term use of doses higher than the recommended dose can result in the depletion of electrolytes, including potassium, which in turn can cause muscle weakness, weight loss, and irregular heartbeat. Kidney inflammation and blood in the urine may also occur.
Why is EVAX the laxative of choice?
EVAX is safe and natural and contains no phenolphthalein or other synthetic laxatives.
EVAX was developed after 15 years of research into the biology and health benefits of Aloe ferox by Professor MC Botha and BAYLABS and represents a significant advance on plain Aloe bitters.
EVAX works in 4 ways to produce a normal bowel movement:
Increased electrolyte in the colon
Increased water in the colon
Increased mucous lubrication in the colon
Increased healthy dietary fibre in the colon
EVAX is made from organically certified dried aloe leaf powder and is free of fertilizers, pesticides or industrial pollution.
EVAX can be used with SMART FIBRE for long term control of constipation and irregular bowel movements.
EVAX has an excellent track record. It has been available on the SA market for more than 5 years, with only satisfied customers.
